Sanae in her casuals

at Yomiyama Hospital . She is first seen at Kouichi's ward. She has a brother named Mizuno Takeru who is in the 9th Grade Class 3 at Yomiyama North Middle School. Sanae has short brown hair and big light brown eyes. She is usually shown wearing her nurse uniform, a white cap, pale pink dress, pale pink shoes and a dark blue jacket. In Episode 4, she is seen wearing her casual outfit, which consists of a white dress and a blue bag. In the manga, she has short black hair and black eyes.

Pesonality
Sanae is a cheerful nurse and she is in charge of taking care of Kouichi when he is in the hospital. She suggested various mystery authors to Kouichi to read while he was in the hospital, and also when they used to meet casually. Sanae is also shown as a sociable, friendly and peaceful person. She is in good terms with Kouichi.
In the Manga while her character is quite similar she appears to be clumsy as she walks into a wall, and puts to much sugar into her tea. She also bites her tongue

-Her first name, Sanae, means "rice seedlings".

Kouichi Sakakibara is the main male protagonist of Another. He is a new transfer student to Yomiyama North Middle School's 9th Grade Class 3 (in May, 1998). He is 15 years old and is the only son in the Sakakibara family. His mother supposedly passed away 15 years ago after giving birth to him.

Kouichi is a 15 year old boy who is a transfer student from Tokyo. In Yomiyama he lives with his grandparents and Reiko as his father is works in India and his mother had died after childbirth. Kouichi has a great curiosity to the events 26 years ago that made the class such as beset the fear of death.

Personality

He has a very curious personality and is determined to find out what happened 26 years before the main storyline. He and Mei became friends in later episodes, after the class decided to treat Kouichi as if he doesn't exist as well. He used to love running, something he was forced to give up after being diagnosed with Pneumothorax. Also, he is very friendly and sociable, making new friends since his first day at Yomiyama North Middle School. Kouichi is very determined and decided to resolve the mystery of the 9th grade class. He wants nothing more than to find out who the dead person is and stop the calamity. He is usually serious but also funny when the moment calls for it.

Fact

-His first name, Kouichi, means "one" while his last name, Sakakibara, can be translated as "the truth of the sacred Shinto tree field". His surname refers to Reiko as being the assistant homeroom teacher of the 9th grade class 3 and also being the death one as her last name, Mikami, means "sacred Shinto tree field".

-He is ranked A+ in Another characters ranking.

-In the manga,when Reiko asked him about the club he was joining in his previous school, he replied by saying 'Cooking Club'. Because of his father who can't cook, he has to cook for his family

-His home address is 5-1 Furuikecho Yomiyama City.

-In the original novel, Kouichi was a target of bullying at his previous school in Tokyo due to his last name "Sakakibara" being the same as a real life middle school murderer from Kobe. On the other hand, he shows a slight cruelness to Mochizuki.

-In the manga Chapter 16 (Anime Episode 10), it wasn't Daisuke who suddenly fell sick, but him. When Izumi was arguing with Mei, blaming her and Kouichi for all that had happened, Kouichi tried to protect Mei, putting all the blame on himself, but he suddenly collapsed. Chibiki tried to call an ambulance, but his phone was out of range. The anime follows the original novel on this point.

-In the manga, Kouichi was more affected by Sanae's and also Reiko's death than in the anime.

-He shares the same name as a protagonist of Kamen Rider Ryuki: 13 Riders, Koichi Sakakibara.

-Kouichi bears a heavy resemblance to Yuuto Togashi from Chunibyo Demo Koi ga Shitai!.

Mei Misaki is the main female protagonist of Another. She was labeled by her classmates as "the one that does not exist." Mei has a red right eye and a green left doll's eye. Also, she is a student of Class 3-3 in 1998.

Mei is an isolated girl in Yomiyama North Middle School's Class 3-3. She has short, black, chin-length hair with long bangs and a ghostly complexion. Mei wears the school's standard uniform. Her left eye is covered by an eye patch and her right eye is red. Although in the anime her left eye is shown as green, it was originally blue in the novel/manga. In episode 3 of the anime , it is revealed that her left eye is actually an artificial eye, and she says that she keeps it hidden because she can see things with it that "aren't supposed to be seen." In episode 6, the mystery behind her green eye is finally revealed. She mentions to Kouichi that she had a disease when she was about 4 years old and it was so severe that she lost her left eye. Her mother made her a new green eye saying that the same shade would be boring. The reason she uses an eyepatch is because she dislikes that dual shade and hence decided to hide it.
first, telling Kouichi to stay away from her, but as time goes on, she becomes accustomed to his presence and doesn't seem to mind having him around. She also tells him to be careful, since 'it' (the curse) may have started already, indicating concern. Her hobby is drawing, and she is a member of the art club. Mei also dislikes cell phones, saying it disturbs her to be connected to other people at all times by electromagnetic waves.
In contrast to her typically taciturn behavior, she also has a childish side. as seen in Episode 8 of the anime, she spends time building a sandcastle and gets scared when an octopus sticks to her hand, leading her to think that it was going to eat her. Another childish side of her is shown when she wore the flower headpiece she found in the box in the old Class 3-3 room and making a joke about hearing moaning in the auxiliary library. These traits of her personality only appear in the anime, not in the original novel.
